Northcliffe Media to sell newspaper titles to KM Group

All news media in Thanet could soon be controlled by just one company

Back in July of this year it was announced that Northcliffe Media intended to sell nine of it's newspaper titles to the KM Group. The newspapers in question include the Dover Express, East Kent Gazette, Folkestone Herald, Herne Bay and Whitstable Times, Isle of Thanet Gazette, Medway News and Thanet Times.

Northcliffe Media is part of the Daily Mail General Trust. Northcliffe Media has only owned the titles for the last four years after acquiring them in 2007 from Trinity Mirror. It is unclear at present how many of the titles will be maintained and how this purchase will impact on the staff levels of each company. Equally unclear is how this will change news reporting in Thanet.

The mater was referred to the Office of Fair Trading with all comments required in by the 8th August.

This story has been extensively covered by other on-line titles here is a short cross section of that coverage: Guardian coverage of the story, Thanet Star's Initial Coverage, Alan Collons (Medway) blog post, Big News Margate's coverage...
