We have a week to get your comments in to Thanet District Council regarding the night flight proposals.

Thanet District Council is now asking members of the public for their views on proposals for regular night-time flying at Manston Airport.

The night flight proposals were submitted by Infratil, owners of the airport, in last October last year following which Thanet District Council commissioned an independent report which is, in places, fairly critical of the proposals suggestions. There is now a public consultation.

There is a look at the issues on Thanet Star and another on Thanet Online.

The consultation is open to all members of the public as well as Town and Parish Councils, Chambers of Commerce, Community and Residents Associations and Special Interest Groups established in Thanet. Responses received from residents within the Canterbury City Council boundary will be shared with Canterbury City Council.

Your comments may be submitted by email or by post and must include your full name, address and postcode to be valid. You can email consultation@thanet.gov.uk or you can put it int he post and send it to:

Don't forget your postcode and be sure to state clearly if you are opposing or supporting the proposal.

We must use the resources we have to the max. The airport is one of many jewels we possess so we must encourage its use. Night flights should be allowed to fly according to the requests that have been promised by the company. It means jobs, opportunity and a great future for our planet Thanet.

I would respectfully disagree regarding the benefits night flights offer. The staff needed already have to be there and the independent report suggests no new jobs would be created and very little economic activity would result. The suggestion is that the airport would become a stop over point for goods transit. It basically accuses the airport operators of grossly overstating the possible benefits.
